During the 40s it was war time with a lot of destruction and devastation but following on from this period, lots of building were being reconstructed and there are many examples of these throughout Normandy. Musically the likes of Glenn Miller, Django Reinhart, and Boris Vian were making the "caves" of St-Germain des Prés dance! Post war Two pieces of legislation were introduced: the ‘Marshall Plan’ to fight against shortages and restrictions, and to restore the economic infrastructure of post war Europe, and the
‘National Council of the Resistance’ to lay the foundations of French social welfare reform. Optimism and the birth rate were at their highest. Experience the 40's with 21st century comfort at Villa Juno.

Villa Juno - Le Lotus Bleu (1934) qui se déroule pendant la guerre de Mandchourie est paru dans sa version coloriée en 1946.

The Tintin's Blue Lotus happens in the sino-japanese war of the thirties and the coloured version of the album was a first edition in 1946.
Fautrier's "Hostages" pays tribute to the martyrs of the French resistance. Picasso drew Francoise Gilot's portrait during his honeymoon. The "Callichromie" reproduction technique of the cubist "white guitar" was created by Vercors (French resistant and writer). The air display poster is in very good condition because, due to a spelling/typing error it was never used (the city was Auneau - Eure et Loir - instead of Anneau),

The 120 cm headboard reflects the evolution of the standard size of a double bed of that period of time. The historic map of the 1944 Landing (which you will see in the toilets) helps us to understand the progression of the troops towards Caen, the building of the pipe lines, the westward progression, and the tragic German defeat in the "Falaise pocket".
The combat photos of Canet Street were taken on June 6, 1944 in front of our house. Try the wooden cinema chair, it is surprisingly soft and comfortable.
